How to estimate the database size while designing a database?

My idea is if u have already running in some database. U can calculate on the no of rows entered(x) in a table per hour.From there , by knowing the no of bytes per row .(y), we can multiply x * Y and get the result. If u have some other opinion , please put forward

I want a more professional answer. Is there any tool to design and estimat the size of the database ?
