Hi All,

I trying to setup a 2 node oracle10gr2 standard edition rac, but i only have 2 shared disks of 270GB. Reading the install guide, i learnt that atleast 1 disk is needed for ocr,1 for voting disk and you can have other in ASM. Is there a way to put both the voting disk and OCR on one disk, so that i could use the only available other disk for ASM.

thanks alot

If you use RAW DEVICE For OCR + VOTE and use ASM

You should have raw devices... (if you have high availability share storage.. use 1 ocr + 1 vote), So
- 256M for OCR
- 256M for VOTE DISK
- 50M for SPFILE of ASM
- ASM.... DISKGROUPs....

so, could i slice 1 disk with two partitions like

/dev/rdsk/c2t12d0s1 - 256MB - OCR
/dev/rdsk/c2t12d0s3 - 256MB - Voting disk

and use the other 1 disk for ASM

/dev/rdsk/c2t12d1s0 - 272GB - ASM diskgroup

i only have two disks on the shared storage, so want to devote 1 disk for ocr & voting and 1 disk to asm. will the above work. i think it should, but will confirm while installing crs.

yes you can

oh dont' forgot one slice for SPFILE (ASM)

So,
/dev/rdsk/c2t12d0s1 - 256MB - OCR
/dev/rdsk/c2t12d0s3 - 256MB - Voting disk
/dev/rdsk/c2t12d0s4 - 50MB - spfile(ASM)

and use the other 1 disk for ASM

/dev/rdsk/c2t12d1s0 - 272GB - ASM diskgroup

If you'll use 11g you should make OCR + VOTE DISK > 500M

thanks.

one doubt, can't i put the spfile into the asm diskgroup on the 2nd disk.

im thought we could keep spfile, controlfile, datafile, redo logs under the 1 asm diskgroup. i might be wrong, correct me..

on 10g you can not put spfile of ASM to ASM DIskgroups
Because you need it, before start ASM instance

If you mean SPFILE Of RDBMS database ... sure you can put in ASM diskgroup....
