Shocked Sad I installed Oracle 10g. Then I created an instance. After the instance was created, I went to OEM to look at the instance, and noticed it wasn't turned on. I went to the network folder and noticed I only had sqlnet.ora; no Listener.ora or tsnames.ora. I put the files there, but when I try to startup the instance, the password and usernames I created with the database don't work.
Agent Connection to Instance failed
Listener down Shocked

Sad I installed 10 g and I cannot see listener.ora or tnsnames.ora in the network folder. I also cannot get my instance to start. The Listner is down, and none of the usernames and passwords work.

It would be helpful if you followed Posting Guidelines - http://www.orafaq.com/forum/t/88153/0/

>I installed 10 g
post COPY & PASTE proof Oracle DB exists.
post excerpt from alert_SID.log file that show DB stop/start were successful.

With V10 no listener.ora file is required to start the listener.

Neither tnsnames.ora not sqlnet.ora are mandatory.
Default installation does not create them.
So you have what is expected.

You don't need none of this file to start your instance, just connect locally "/ as sysdba".

Michel

They weren't created when the database was created after installation.

Even after I create the database? I thought These two files would be created upon creation. They were in the past.

I uninstalled oracle. Whenever you create a database there has to be a listener. There are no listeners with my databases.

Statement above is 100% WRONG! See below

besides you can start listener when no listener.ora file exists.
Try it for yourself.
