Hi All,

We have a database, we basically run some overnite jobs on that. To support the hight availability we are planning to set up a standby database.

We are planning to make it work some thing like this...
The production database generates huge archivelogs during the nightly bathc job, so our plan is
1) depend on the standby database during the day to support the high availability
2) During the batch run, as it generates huge redo log info, instead of applying the redo ,take the cold back up of the DB at the end of the batch job or inother words do not depend on the standby during the batch run as analysis revealed that the redo info is going to be more than the actual size of the db.
If we follow the above, we will end up in creating a standby database every day. Is this practically possible to create a stand by database every day

Thanks in advance

Hi,
Here is a wayout.
1.put the standby database in recovery mode
2.put archived files in the network(or mechine)of the standby database and configure the path for standby database to recover from the archives generated in the main database.
3.In this way your performance of main server will not affect and as well will have a standby which is upto date.

Please let me know if you need further info

All the best!
