ora 10389 1 0 Mar 15 ? 119:52 ora_pmon_MTP
ora 12098 1 0 Mar 15 ? 110:08 ora_pmon_TMP

Balaji/Ajit/Jack/Mohan/Mathew/Suhas/Srini/william/Srikanth/david/Srijesh,

Then now you know how to use "ps", I don't think you ever feedback with the solution in the other topic you created about that.

Hi Michel,
Quote:
What false alert?

I got alert stating that database is down. When i went and checked in the server using ps command, i found database was not there.
It was not found even in oratab file.

I suspect this could be a false alert. What is your comment on this ?

Regards,

* pmon is only running when the database is running.
* a database *might* be in /etc/oratab, but it is not required.

The next thing I would check if there is a init-file for the database present.

Then I would try to start the database and see what happens.

There is nothing as "could be" in IT, unless you don't have the skills to find out.

Smile DBA should able to find what was wrong.. We believe you can do this.

Do you know when was the last modified date in /etc/oratab ?

Are you sure you don't have any entry's in /var/opt/oracle ? Is Oracle Inventory logs tell you something ? do you know the location of oraInst.loc ?

If you don't see init.ora or alert log file.. do you know file system status ? like your database mounted in NFS or DNFS file system ? Have you validated your /etc/fstab ? Is anyone modified

Without your knowledge is anyone decommissioned your database ?

If you have answer for all question you should able to figure out what was wrong.. Again you own your environment.. Do some home work before your next update.

PDNFTT, as it would just give another chance to the tr**l.

@babuknb,
Do you think a DBA with 8+ years of experience can't even understand such trivialities?
