Hello everyone - I have a few questions on Flashback Database, would be glad to get the answers from the experts like y'all.

Here is the scenario:
Flashback is enabled, flashback_retention is 48 hours, Undo space is huge

1pm: Everything is good on the Database

2pm: some changes in some of the tables were performed

3pm: New tablespaces have been added

4pm: Need the data changes to be rolled back, the database should be as it was at 1pm.

Now, at this point of time, is it possible to Flashback the DB to 1pm?

if yes, would the newly created tablespaces go away as well?

if no, what is the oldest time to which the Database can be flashed back (3.05 pm) ?

Does creating the tablespaces, or having the datafiles increased in size have any affect on Flashback Database?

Please advise.

Thank you,
Ricky

yes
yes, and you lose all changes which happened after 1PM

BTW - It does not matter if the 2PM changes were DML or DDL

Thank you BlackSwan.

How about if at 3pm, lot of datafiles were resized, and a lot of new datafiles were added?

In that case, if I flashback to 1pm, do I lose the newly created datafiles, and also the resized ones go back to the actual size as at 1pm?

Very interesting question......one that I did not know off the top of my head.

Look in the documentat ... http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28273/rcmsynta023.htm

There may be new versions with different information...but there is a table there that gives you what you want to know for version 11.1.

Regards
Tim

4pm: Need the data changes to be rolled back, the database should be as it was at 1pm.

When you say data changes should be rollback then why don't you consider FLASHBACK table ? OR Your refer entire database should be rollback as its 1 PM ?

Thank you BlackSwan and Tim.

Yes babuknb, I would want the entire database to be flashedback.
