Im very new to Oracle.

I have an oracle database (oralce 8 ) running on NT
The database is not in Arcive log mode and I want to put it into Archive log mode.

I have done this sucessfully on my own machine, however
when i connect as system / manager to sqlplus and type shutdown immediate i get an error saying unknown command "shutdown.." rest of line ignored!!

Thanks in advance.
