the location of redolog and data file is specified in control file and control file location is specified in init.ora file.but how does a instance know that where is init.ora is located and then reads all the parameter.

it depends on OS. In windows environment oracle checks in registry for init.ora file location.

On Unix, Oracle looks for the init.ora in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
