hi
i m using oracle 8.1.7 i want to take the export other than server pls help me in detail the operating system , the steps , some body suggested me use oracle client but i dont know how to use it

On Unix
take backup directly to tape deivice with following command-
exp system/manager file=/dev/rmt/tape1/expdat.dmp volsize 1.2G

in place of G (K,M) can also be given as per your requirement.
