Does the manual creation of a DB require the running of the data dictionary scripts to create the catalog
immediately after running the 'create database' script. The oracle windows manual doesn't say...

no,no when you type

create database........
command change you have to run the scripts i.e.catalog.sql,catproc.sql and lots of other to create system user, sys user and base table.

Yes you do. Run the database assistant and have it right the scripts for you to run later and look at what it does. This will give you a good idea on what needs to happen when you do it yourself.
