Need to get the concept cleared !

Example: Assume we have a tablespace ts1 that has autoextend set to true ! There is only 1 datafile set to ts1 !

Is it that when the datafile is full, the size of the datafile will increase (bcos of autoextend) and this will continue to happen till the disk is not full ?

And thus we can have 1 datafile for 1 tablespace and there will be no need to create any more datafiles for this tablespace ?

Ofcourse its true - for administration and optimisation related issues we might go for multiple datafiles.

Kindly comment !

Regards,
Amit

yes you are right absolutely right, you can add about 1022 file in a single tablespace for version 8.
if you have multiple files and the tablespace has autoextend option is true then all the files can get the space up to the hard disk limit.

Thanks

Keep in Touch.

Yes,

If the TS has only one datafile then what you have said will happen. And if TS has more than One Datafile then the Space will be added to Datafiles in a Round robin basis.
