What factors make a .dmp file large?? I have an instance with only 48 tables, the largest having 3Million rows.

Would that produce a .dmp file thats 500MB??

The size dump file is little affected by data in the database. IT is the extents the table has occupied that scores.

It depends on the number of rows exported and the size of each row in bytes. Multiply the numbers and you will get very close estimation.

To get the exact size, use the method described in This Article

Hope that helps,
