Hello,

Can anyone help me? I need to update the processes parameter in the init.ora file. Can this be done without shutting down the db and manually editing the ora file?

Thanks in advance

James

When ever you need to touch the init.ora always oracle needs to be re started in order for those changes to be affective. Hope this helps

There are CERTAIN init.ora parameters that can be changed dynamically. But NOT ALL.
And i beleive, PROCESSES is one of them

If you use oracle 9i, you can do this. Alter........
Scope = Both.
This means, the change with take place both in the current session and the SPFILE level. Spfile is the binary version of init.ora
