Hi,

Is there a way to find out whether oracle is running or it is down without logging into oracle and also without using "ps" command in sun solaris.

Chk if lkSID file exists in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs
This file gets created to prevent one from Starting the db more than once

I tested this but lkSID file is present even after the database is shutdown.Can u please let me know how to check from a script that oracle is up/down
