Hi,

According to Oracle's documentation, SWITCHOVER LATENT implies the following:

The switchover was in pending mode, but did not complete and went back to the primary database.

The system under investigation encountered this status when an attempt was made to make the standby database go primary. A query is executed to determine the status and only if the status is set "TO PRIMARY" or "SWITCHOVER PENDING" would the script proceed in following through with the transition from standby to primary. I

In the past, the 'expected' status was retrieved, but very recently, the script is encountering this unexpected (LATENT)condition, and abort further execution at that point. Without doing anything further, the status remains set to this value.

Two questions:

1. Under what scenario(s) would SWITCHOVER LATENT arise?

2. How does one go about resolving this issue?

Thanks,

DSL
