See MetaLink Note:175777.1
PURPOSE
-------
Describe the new features for General Ledger delivered by 11i.GL.F
(2153419).

Journal Import Currency End Date Bypass
====================================================================
With this mini-pack Journal Import is enhanced to allows users to
bypass the validation of the currency's end date.

When a currency becomes obsolete and is end dated there may still
be transactions waiting to be imported for this currency in past
periods. This enhancement allows customers to import these
transactions by bypassing the validation of the currency's end date.

This feature requires a new profile option GL Journal Import:
Bypass Currency End Date. This profile option is not seeded with
the patch and must be manually created if you want to use this
feature. If you do not want to use this feature you do not
need to do anything. This option once created can be set
at the site application responsibility and user levels.

To create the GL Journal Import: Bypass Currency End Date
profile option:
1. Sign onto applications using the Application Developer
responsibility.
2. Navigate to the Define User Profile Option screen.
3. Define a new profile option as follows:
Name: GL_JI_IGNORE_CURRENCY_DATE
Application: Oracle General Ledger
User Profile Name: GL Journal Import: Bypass Currency End Date
Description: To bypass journal import's validation of currency
end date.
                  SQL: SQL="select meaning IGNORE_DATE lookup_code
                        into :visible_option_value :profile_option_value
                        from fnd_lookups
                        where lookup_type='YES_NO'"
                        COLUMN="IGNORE_DATE(*)"

Set the profile option GL Journal Import: Bypass Currency End
Date to Yes at the site application responsibility or user
level.

Hi David,
Thanks a lot for your valuable information.
But still one concept is vague in that.
What does it actually mean,by saying "When a currency becomes obsolete and is end dated ".Is this the exchange rates defined for a currency in MRC or anything else?
Please let me know in detail about the "Currency End Dated".
Your help will be appreciated a lot.

Thanks for your reply in advance.

Best Regards & Thanks,
Arun.

Arun,

This is the first time that I have met the "Journal Import Currency End Date Bypass". I haven't got a clue how it works or what it does, beyond what it says in Note:175777.1 as quoted above/below. However, it looks to me to be fairly self-explanatory. If a currency is end-dated (in other words, somebody has decided that the currency will not be used after a certain date) there should not be any more transactions in that currency. An example would be a European country joining the Euro and giving up its original national currency. However, there may be "old" transactions in your system that were created while the currency was still valid, but were not posted to GL before the currency "expired". This option allows you to say "Yes, I know about these transactions; they are valid, "old" transactions which should be posted to GL. They are not "new" transactions entered in the wrong currency."

If you want any more information, I suggest that you do exactly what I did - do some research, read, explore.
