Hi all,

How can i automatically set the permission for user whenever they upload a file to server?

For example, if the user upload a file, the file permission goes to -rwxrwxr--. I ready change the value of file creation umask to 3, meanings that the permission will goes to -rwxrwxr--. But, the problem is, the file permission still goes to -rw--r-----.

Is there any setting that i missed?
Please help me as this is very urgent!

Thanks in advance. Appreciate your help...

I used UNIX ages (literally ages) ago; however, isn't man ('manual') UNIX command which shows help about other commands (in this case, umask)?

Hye Littlefoot,

Thnks for your info.

As i mentioned before, i've change value of the umask to 3, but still get this rw-r----- for the permission file. Supposingly i should get rwxrwxr--. Am i right?

In the future, I wouldn't recommend specifying a title as URGENT. This will preclude many folks from responding.

If you are on Solaris, you can set UMASK=003 in the /etc/defaults/ftpd file.

You can also consider changing the umask for the session with:

site umask 003
